Humans of Impact: Megan Christensen

Megan is the VP of Search at Watson University, an incubator and school for student social entrepreneurs. Watson University offers a semester program along with a full degree track that allows students to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Entrepreneurship in addition to helping them launch their ventures. After graduating from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, Megan spent a year in Mexico as part of the Fulbright-Garcia Robles Binational Business internship. The Fulbright Program is an international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, and offers grants to participants to study, teach, and conduct research. As part of the program, she worked at the Mexico and Central America office of Ashoka, a global organization that supports social entrepreneurs.

After her grant ended, Megan knew she wanted to continue working in the realm of social entrepreneurship and education. Luckily, Watson University has close ties to Ashoka (Eric Glustrom, Watson University founder and president, was an Ashoka Fellow) and she ended up finding her new home here in Boulder just a couple months ago. In the short time she’s been here, she said the best part about her job has been hearing the scholars’ stories and learning about their ventures.

“Some of these scholars are 19, and have ventures that they’ve been running for three years,” she said. “Actually getting to know the people behind the ventures and the people behind the scholar title has been amazing. They’re such a cool group of people.”

If you want any insight on how social entrepreneurs get off the ground in Central America or if you know someone who’d be a great fit for Watson University, Megan’s your woman to talk to. And if you’re ever lost or want to find a new destination to explore, she has a vast map collection!
