If you are a successful entrepreneur, or have had a series of ups and downs in your career, chances are high that there were people along the way who helped guide you. This mentorship may have given you direction through the storms of business, or affirmed an important decision when you reached a fork in the road.
Become a CU New Venture Challenge Mentor
2013 marks the fifth year of the campus-wide competition CU New Venture Challenge (NVC). This competition provides hands-on experience and support for CU students and faculty to develop business ideas into plans for successful ventures. The NVC is reaching out to the community asking for mentors.
The NVC relies on the expertise and experience of mentors in our community. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, and a match is made with you and one of the competing teams, you will be asked to commit to a minimum of two meetings with your team. Keep in mind that many teams have multiple mentors, depending on expertise needed.
NVC participants get access to workshops, mentoring, and team building events. NVC offers five tracks: Cleantech, Information Technology, Music, Social Impact, and “General”. Winners from each category win cash prizes and go on to the overall NVC Finals.
New Venture Challenge Social Impact Track
The NVC Social Impact Track provides specialized support for new enterprises that create social and/or environmental benefits. Ventures provide benefits for communities either by serving underserved populations, by addressing a pressing social or environmental needs through financially sustainable services and/or products, or by creating a business model with ancillary social/environmental benefits.
This year, the Social Impact Track finals of the NVC will occur as part of the larger CESR (Center for Education on Social Responsibility) Stampede Week. It will be part of Social Entrepreneurship Day of the event Monday, April 15th 2013.
