Your one stop blog to Plug in to what’s happening at Impact Hub Boulder
Welcome to our new blog “In Case You Missed It,” where you can learn everything you need to know about what’s happening at the Hub. We’ll be doing everything from recapping events, to introducing you to new members, and keeping you up to date on the social calendar. Fall is officially in full swing here at the Hub, and the place is buzzing with new members, a wealth of events, and an influx of energy for things to come, so be sure to stay tuned!
Sansori Presents-“Insider’s View: Social Enterprise in Action”
We were very excited this week to welcome Sansori back to the space for another “Insider’s View: Social Enterprise in Action”. We had the Tea Spot, Renewable Choice Energy, and National Eco Wholesale in the space, sharing their stories and brainstorming solutions to their latest challenges with community members. This event was one of those rare occasions where you can tangibly see the community coming together to collaborate and share their wisdom and experience, so I want to give a big thanks to everyone who participated!
Indiegogo’s #GivingTuesday Crowdfunding Breakfast
Indiegogo was in the space on Thursday Morning for the #GivingTuesday Crowdfunding Breakfast, where they offered tips on running a successful crowdfunding campaign and rallied the community for #GivingTuesday on December 2nd. You can check out their website here to learn more and get in the spirit of giving.
Tuesday was also a busy day for workshops, with three sell-outs! We had Jerry Valentine teaching us “Purpose, Mission and Values: How to Talk About What You Do,” John Fisher for “Open Book Management for Business Development” and Debra Jason teaching “Unleashing the Lead Generating Power of LinkedIn.” Workshops at the Hub are a great resource for affordable professional development from some of our most knowledgeable members, so if you haven’t already make sure to take advantage of these weekly courses.
As for the social calendar, our Impact Hub Kickball team played on Monday. We came out strong and held the lead for the better part of the game, but lost in the last inning, knocking us out of first place contention. “Impact Your Face” (our team name) will be fighting for third place in the playoffs next Monday at 8:00PM at Mapleton fields for anyone who’d like to come cheer on your fellow Hubbers!
Wednesday was our Monthly Member lunch, which gives our members the opportunity to take a break from their work, meet fellow members, learn about great local food, and enjoy a free catered lunch provided by a local restaurant. This Month Impact Hub Member Marcy Miller’s new restaurant, Organic Sandwhich Company, provided some healthy and delicious sandwiches, and members gathered out on the patio for a laid back lunch. If you missed out this month that’s ok, we do it every month! Next month we’ll be holding a Thanksgiving-style potluck lunch. To sign up for a dish, please click here.
And finally, as always, we had the Coffee Collider! This week was a great turnout, with 25 people and many new faces. Even though this is a weekly event, every Collider is a little bit different, and offers an opportunity to connect with someone new.
Impact Hub was featured in “About Boulder.” The article, written by our own Media and Marketing Intern Mr. Gavin Griffen, describes the hub as “a dance of ideas, work, fun, practiced mentors and guidance, workshops and skill-building events, community and networking, and when you put it all on the dance floor you can see how this well oiled dancing machine becomes a force in productive change.” You can check out this fun and inspirational piece about collaborative workspace and Boulder business culture at AboutBoulder.com.
Impact Hub is Hiring a new Managing Director. Yes, it’s true. Our illustrious leader, Greg Berry, is bowing out of his Managing Director Position to become our Entrepreneur in Residence. While he has really always been our Entrepreneur in Residence in practice and spirit, he is now taking the roll on officially and full time. As Greg grows into his new roll at Impact Hub, and while the shoes to be filled are rather large, we’re now scouring the community for worthy candidates.
This week’s member quote of the week belongs to Mr. Greg Sclar from the Wild Horses Project (click here to learn about his Indogogo campaign :), who tells us that “Hero’s seats should have only edges.” Thanks for staying tuned in to Impact Hub, and we hope to see you next week!
