Around The World With The Impact Hub Global Network by Impact Hub Boulder member Sean Helvey
Several months ago, when I began planning my first trip to Europe, it occurred to me that I ought to visit a couple of different Impact Hubs. I needed a place to work and after being a member of the community here in Boulder, it was easy to imagine that other locations would be full of friendly staff, inspiring members, and fresh perspectives. While many of the people here know one another, I hadn’t seen much interaction between members living in different places. I decided to write about my trip in the hope that it would inspire more cross-border collaboration.
After visiting 4 different Impact Hubs over the course of 5 weeks, I’m left with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the places and people who made the adventure a success. When I arrived in Stockholm, they welcomed me with open arms, and after two weeks there I felt like part of the family. I experienced the same hospitality at a much larger location in Prague and a prototype Hub in San Sebastian. The people in Berlin took me right in and made an impression on me that I will never forget. I found that I could travel around the world and be a part of the global community as a member of Impact Hub.
So go and do it! Talk with the staff at Impact Hub and ask them to put you in touch with someone at the location that you want to visit. Seek out the community catalyst (shout to my friends Yoav Goldwein at Impact Hub Stockholm and Vishal Jodhani at Impact Hub Berlin) to learn more about the culture there. Ask members out to lunch. Stick around for drinks in the evenings. You are going to meet amazing people at Impact Hubs no matter where you travel.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped to make my dream possible. Thank you all so much!
